As good as the original games
Reviewed by jondahl on August 12, 2006 | report this review
Metroid (for NES) and Super Metroid (for Super NES) are two of the greatest games ever made. They were exciting, dark, atmospheric, and satisfying. They even had good music - amazing when you think about games like Super Mario Bros. :)
Metroid Prime lives up to the high bar set by its predecessors. The premise is the same - you are Samus Aran, an interstellar bounty hunter who crash-lands on an alien planet. Your job is to investigate what has gone on, and regain your strength along the way. Metroid Prime is played from a first-person perspective, not a side-scrolling perspective (like the original games), but the translation to 3d works extremely well. It is one of the easiest FPS-style games that I have ever controller.
All in all, if you want a challenging action game that actually has some depth, this is it.

Great FPS
Reviewed by wierzbicki on September 25, 2006 | report this review
Too bad FPSs arent my cup of tea. This is one of the few FPSs that I enjoyed, though. Great adventure game. I love the puzzle/exploration aspect of this game, however. If FPSs were less about running around and shooting, and more solving puzzles and exploring worlds, I'd love the genre.
Pros:
-Great gameplay and controls--Retro knows what they are doing
-Beautiful
-Great exploration game (can get lost though)
-One of my (few) favorite FPSs
-Great boss battles--huge monsters, and tough to beat
-Great soundtrack, like all Metroid games
Cons:
-Steep learning curve for people who haven't played FPSs (IMO), but maybe all FPSs are like that. If you are new to the genre, another game may ease you into it than this one.
-I played this during a time when I had at most 10 minutes to devote to gaming. Not a game that can be played in 10 min. intervals. Set some time aside. I hope to get back to this game when I have a free week.
-Going along with the above, saving is a problem. You can't just stop anywhere you want and save. With the way I play video games, I need that in a game. Some people don't, but I do, so I found that annoying.
Awesome mix of exploration a Pirate blasting

This game is one of the best FPS ever. It blends and wonderful mixture of exploration, puzzle solving and creature blastin.’
One of the sweetest aspects is that as you fight your enemy you can scan him in and the computer will tell you a brief description of the creature the most probable weakness. Such as when you’re fighting the giant snow dinosaur you can switch to your heat visor and lock on the “ventilation” area on the beast. Then just let the missiles fly.
Overall this game beautiful with a wide expanse of scenery and creature development.

Metroid Rocks!

Metroid Prime has everything you need in a typical alien game and so much more. The Metroid Series are awesome but I'd say this game would take the gold medal if it wasn't for the occasional weapons. This game should be a game of the year candidate for the gamecube if it isn't already. This game has great graphics, good gameplay and weapons, and the awesome characters. Get this game if you like shooter games.

Awesome Game

In this game, it is a whole different outlook on Samus'
story.
3-D graphics, along with Dolby Pro-Logic II (tm), and first person orientation enhance the whole feel of Metroid.
The same weapon add-ons as all other Metroids, but has different visors (first person sight HUD) as well.
Instant Classic for all Metroid Fans

This game is awesome with the first person view. Which makes for a better game. Story is awesome and brings back some old foes like Ripley which was nice to see. This game will be played over and over and over again in my collection it does not get old even with the classic weapons. The addition of the visors are nice. When I bought a Cube I had to have this game since I played the old school Metroid games. It will keep you busy for hours I think it took me around 50 hours to play and that was around 80% complete. Metroid Prime is a great game and the bosses will leave you puzzled and ready for more while you play it is fun but hard. Get ready for a great ride with this game you will not be disapointed.

metroid

this is not a metroid game!! metroid is a 2d shooting game not a first person shooter. i hate how people call this a metroid game. this is more doom then metroid, we turned samus, a hot female into a arm. thats all she is, is a arm. in some of the story line sequencs u see her but thats it. in my veiw Super metroid was the last metroid game. this i a new francise, prime. on that statement this game is sub-par not even worth the money unless you like doom allot.
A great return to the Metroid games.

First thing, Metroid Prime is not a first person shoot, it a first person adventure game. The game is more of a platformer, then a fps. When you first start to play this game, the game at first seems like it plays like a Halo, or a Half-Life, but it not. Its a real return to the franchise. Most FPS don't have rich, and in valling boss battle's. The look is great, and in a 2D scroller you can,t take in the seenarey, but in a FPS you can. The game is a 10 all around, a most like play for any action game fan.
Interesting.

A great transition to 3-d, metroid has taken a leap that made many of us skeptical at some point. In simple, it worked.
We love it, Metroid Fans love it, I love it, Inexperienced gamers Hate it.
Great Great Great Game... But possibly a bit to damn hard for the weak of mind, or the beginners... But than again has any of the games it this series been easy?
Graphics Good, Sound Good, Story Good, Game Good.
A+ for us
B- for them.

One of the best 3D Nintendo titles

Metroid Prime is often mentioned as the Gamecube's greatest title, and for good reason. Far from being the embarrassing flop that many people expected it to be after it was revealed to be a first-person game, Prime delivers (and improves upon) all the engaging free-roaming gameplay and eerie atmosphere of the original games, enhanced by a fluid and intuitive new control scheme.
Although it's technically an FPS, Prime is more focused on puzzle solving and platforming than combat, but it's not without some intense firefights to liven up the action, so there's something for everyone. If you have a Gamecube or a Wii, you need this game. If you don't, then buy one. It's worth it.
